OUR CHILDREN AND YOUTH
Our children and our youth are our hope for the future. Our bright, creative children are full
of creative spirit, intelligence and wonder. When they are young, these little ones can teach
us so much, if only we would open our eyes and ears and listen. They see that we’ve become too
jaded to see, and they know things we don’t ever give them credit for. Many times we cut off
our youth and children in mid-sentence when they try to talk to us. We say, “Come back later.”
When we say this often enough they don’t come back at all, and they stop listening to us altogether.
We need to acknowledge their creative gifts, for our youth and children are brimming over with
ideas and intelligence. The children and youth of today are much more advanced than ever before,
due to the new technology available to them.
Yet our children and youth lack true leadership and guidance, and this causes problems when they
reach the age of twelve, and beyond into teenage years. They spend hours in front of video games
that teach nothing but violence and destruction, or are glued to the television that has become
so decadent it is hard to find anything for our youth or children to view.
Machines will never replace a warm body, love, guidance or strong leadership in our youth and our
children’s lives. Our children and our youth need guidelines and discipline, they need to feel safe
and secure. Even if they rebel, they need to know someone cares where they are and what they are
doing.
Our youth and our children sometimes scare us with their new ideas and fresh ways of looking at things.
We, as adults, need to listen to them, and not allow ourselves to stagnate in the past. Remember, as
adults, while we are teaching our children and youth, they are also teaching us in so many amazing
ways. So, let us guide our children without suffocating them. Let them grow, but don’t forget to
grow with them.
Our children and youth will always push at the boundaries we set. They test our resolve and that’s
life. They are always testing their wings. That doesn’t mean we have to throw them out of the nest.
Don’t let them fly alone. Fly with them. You’ll be amazed at the heights you and your children can
reach.
